Membership terms and conditions

Useful information and conditions of your OAA membership.

On this page you'll find useful information about becoming an OAA member. We offer different types of membership depending on your circumstances. There's also details on what to do should you wish to pause or cancel your membership at any time.

The OAA has several classes of membership with different eligibilities, privileges and duties. These classes of membership with their associated rights may be varied by the Trustees in accordance with the Articles of the Association. The classes of membership have different membership subscription fees.

The classes of membership are:

Ordinary (Full) Membership:

This membership is open to all licensed medical practitioners and its privileges include discounted registration fees for OAA meetings, subscription to IJOA, eligibility for OAA grants and bursaries, voting rights and eligibility for election to be a Trustee and Officer of the OAA.

In-Training Membership:

This membership is open to all licensed medical practitioners who are in specialist training and have not completed specialist training in anaesthesia. In-training members have all the rights and privileges of Ordinary Membership in accordance with the Articles.

Associate Membership:

This membership is open to all health professionals who are not medical practitioners and other persons at the discretion of the Trustees. Associate members are entitled to discounted registration fees for OAA meetings and subscription to IJOA but are not eligible for OAA grants restricted to Ordinary Members and do not have voting rights nor eligibility for election to be a Trustee and Officer of the OAA.

Foreign Associate Membership:

This membership is open to a licensed medical practitioner who has completed an accredited anaesthesia training programme, who certified as a specialist anaesthetist, and who resides in a low and lower medical income country according to the World Bank list. Foreign Associate members are entitled to discounted registration fees for OAA meetings, online access to IJOA, eligible to apply for OAA grants and bursaries except NIAA research grants and travel grants, but do not have voting rights nor eligibility for election to be a Trustee and Officer of the OAA.

Retired Lifetime Membership:

This membership is open by application to those who have retired from clinical practice and have been an Ordinary Member of the OAA for at least five years. Retired members are entitled to free registration to all OAA meetings and online access to IJOA. Retired members are not eligible for OAA grants or bursaries and do not have voting rights nor eligibility for election to be a Trustee and Officer of the OAA.

  1. Membership subscription rates are subject to change on an annual basis.
  2. When submitting an application for membership or membership renewal whether online or by some other means, you will be required to accept these terms and conditions. Our acceptance of your application will create a legally binding contract between you and the Obstetric Anaesthetists’ Association.
  3. Once a member record has been created, you will be liable to pay the membership fee.
  4. Your 12 calendar month membership for the membership period will start once payment has been received and verified.
  5. The membership period will be 12 calendar months and for new members will run to the anniversary of your renewal date. Existing members will retain the renewal date of 1 January with the membership year running from 1 January to 31 December.
  6. Your membership will be due for renewal at the end of the membership period and a renewal notice will be issued one calendar month prior to the end of the membership period.
  7. Non-payment of invoice will result in the immediate lapse in membership on the renewal date. A reminder email will be issued two weeks after the renewal date.
  1. Cancellation of membership should be made in writing to the OAA secretariat or using your Obstetric Anaesthetists’ Association membership portal.
  2. The Obstetric Anaesthetists’ Association will aim to acknowledge membership cancellations within one week.
  3. We will assume that you do not wish to renew your membership if payment is not received by the due date.
  4. Membership fees are not refundable on cancellation.
  5. You do not have the right to be paid a refund for all or part of your subscription payment if your membership is paused, suspended, or if you change from one membership category to another.
  1. If an OAA member takes a leave of absence for six months or more from work (e.g., maternity leave, illness or other circumstances) members can request to pause their membership for a 12 month period by sending an email to the secretariat team. The member would retain all of the rights of membership including IJOA access, member rates for meetings, and voting rights during the membership pause period.
  2. A pause in membership would reset the renewal date by 12 months.
  3. A membership pause can be repeated on two other separate occasions but not consecutively.
