General
The Obstetric Anesthesia Fellowship consists of one year of advanced clinical training in all aspects of Obstetrical Anesthesia at the University of Michigan Health System-Women's Hospital under the direction of Monica Servin, MD, Obstetric Anesthesia Fellowship Program Director.
The program is dedicated to providing state-of the-art clinical training and expertise in labor analgesia, anesthesia for deliveries and management of high-risk patients, as well as extensive research opportunities. Our obstetric unit comprises a significant high-risk population of parturients with obstetric disorders as well as cardiovascular, pulmonary, neurological, and endocrine disorders.
The fellow will work closely with an Obstetric Anesthesia faculty to teach daily resident conferences and give journal club lectures. Fellows will also participate in the section's research efforts, and attend the Society of Obstetric Anesthesiology and Perinatology conference.
Clinical
Fellows will be assigned flexible rotations in labour and delivery where they will run the floor supervising and directing anesthesia residents. In addition, they will staff rooms at the University's Main hospital and take call in the obstetric/pediatric call pool to help maintain general anesthesia skills.
Hospital
We have a busy service with 3,500 deliveries a year, of which 3,300 require anesthetic services.
