General
The Clinical Research Fellow will be expected to contribute to existing research and the development of new programmes. Duties may include, inter alia, researching literature, liaison with third parties such as drug and equipment companies, completion of research ethics and grant applications, preparation of supporting paperwork and databases, attendance at multidisciplinary meetings, patient recruitment, data collection and analysis. The post holder is expected to write abstracts and manuscripts for publication and/or presentation. Existing areas of interest include PIB/PCEA labour analgesia and Enhanced Recovery after Obstetric Surgery.
Clinical
The post holder will be allocated regular clinical sessions per week and work an on call rota to provide resident after-hours and weekend anaesthetic cover. It is envisaged that this will be primarily on the rota for the maternity hospital.
Hospital
Hillingdon Hospital is situated in Uxbridge in the London Borough of Hillingdon. It is a busy district general hospital with just over 400 beds and provides care to over 350,000 people. The maternity hospital, which includes a labour ward with 11 delivery rooms and two integrated operating theatres, supports a fully varied approach to childbirth, ranging from home delivery through patient-controlled mobile epidurals to support for caesarean section on demand as an informed choice. There is an attached level one/two neonatal unit. The delivery rate currently stands at 4,300 births per year.
