General
This post will provide exposure to all areas of obstetric care including practical, management experience, committee work, audit and research. The fellow will be involved in running a video podcast and blended learning enhanced maternity care, Enhanced Maternal Care (EMC) course for midwives and local mandatory midwifery training. There are also strong links and opportunities to work with Teeside University on Midwifery Maternal Critical Care (MCC) training.
It is hoped that the successful candidate will also learn basic echocardiography skills as well as contribute to the setting up of an elective and emergency service for severe preeclamptic patients.
Clinical
The fellow will fully participate in the senior trainee rota, covering main theatres, surgical intensive recovery unit and labour ward. Adequate time will be reserved for research and teaching every week. The on call commitment will include some nights.
Hospital
JCUH is a busy unit with approximately 5,500 deliveries/year in a high risk population. As well as the central delivery suite that contains an EMC/MCC Unit staffed with critical care trained midwives, the fellow will be involved in sessions in general and maternal critical care, antenatal anaesthetic clinics, and obstetric clinics, including maternal medicine clinic, fetal medicine, and endocrinology clinic.
