General
The 12-month fellowship closely matches the advanced curriculum set out by the Royal College of Anaesthetists (RCoA), to allow the fellow to develop as a well-rounded clinician equipped to meet the challenges of a consultant role.
The fellow will be fully supported to contribute to departmental clinical governance activities. There are established internal forums for presentation and generating action plans, and there is a wealth of information captured on to our paperless patient record system.
Though previous research experience is not essential, the fellow will be expected to participate in ongoing projects. The fellow will also be encouraged to initiate projects and present their work at national/international meetings and through publication in peer reviewed journals. Protected time to pursue these activities will be scheduled. The fellow will also be encouraged to attend a research methodology and development course.
Clinical
The successful applicants hours will include an on call commitment covering emergency obstetrics and will also be expected to undertake elective obstetric work. In addition, there will be ample opportunity to attend the high-risk obstetric anaesthesia clinic and high-risk obstetric clinics.
Hospital
The Homerton University Hospital houses a busy high risk obstetric unit with more than 6,000 births per year. The unit serves women from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds and is committed to delivering exceptional quality. In addition, it is a tertiary neonatal referral centre and is the regional centre for bariatric surgery. The anaesthetic department is dedicated to maintaining high standards and is the first in the country to achieve Anaesthesia Clinical Service Accreditation (ACSA) from the RCoA.
