General
This is a full time clinical and research fellowship post of one year’s duration, which is open to all anaesthesia trainees with appropriate medical registration and an interest in obstetric anaesthesia. Ideally, applicants will have attained FRCA, FCAI or equivalent although applicants who have not done so may still be considered.
Fellows will be allocated at least one day per week to non-clinical activities comprising audit, research, education and development of safety protocols. Additional time may be allocated depending on the level of activity.
Clinical
The clinical commitment will include two or three daytime shifts every week. Depending on level of experience, it is envisaged that the fellow will work autonomously, with in-house consultant cover available. Participation in the senior registrar on-call rota is also required, which includes some nights and weekends.
Hospital
The National Maternity Hospital is a busy stand-alone maternity hospital located in central Dublin with an annual delivery rate of approximately 7500. The hospital is a tertiary referral centre for complex obstetric cases and is also the national referral centre for patients with placenta accreta spectrum disorder. In addition, there is a busy gynaecology surgery service comprising both day case and short stay surgeries. The hospital has close links to St. Vincent’s University Hospital and University College Dublin.
