Annual Scientific Meeting bursaries

Each year the OAA offers up to five Annual Scientific Meeting Bursaries of up to £1,000 each to overseas doctors.

We grant these bursaries to overseas doctors so that they may attend and present an accepted abstract (either as an oral or poster presentation) at our Annual Scientific Meeting. These bursaries are for doctors who otherwise could not afford to attend the Annual Scientific Meeting.

OAA Annual Scientific Meeting Bursaries are limited to one author of each abstract and are limited to two bursaries per country.

Support will not be offered to those who have previously been awarded an Annual Scientific Meeting Bursary.

Late applications will NOT be considered.

Application for amounts up to £1,000 will be considered. Successful applicants will have their registration fee for the Annual Scientific Meeting waived.

Each application will be considered on its merits by the OAA Research and Grants Subcommittee. If more applications are received than bursaries available, applicants will be ranked in order of priority and, if appropriate, forwarded to the OAA Executive Committee for a final decision.

Applications should be made by email to Yavor Metodiev, Chair of the OAA Research and Grants Subcommittee. Applicants should include:

  • The applicant’s curriculum vitae
  • A copy of the accepted abstract
  • Projected travel and accommodation costs

A letter from the applicant’s Head of Department confirming the applicant’s suitability for the meeting his/her current annual salary and that there are no local sources of funding available to the applicant.

Payment for travel and accommodation is by way of reimbursement on production of receipts and conditional on the applicant attending the whole meeting.

The next deadline for applications is 14 March 2025.
